Essentially it's spending an hour or so lying quietly on your back in a large, private bath. You are suspended in a warm solution of Epsom salt water about 10 inches deep and so dense you float effortlessly. Floatation has been in existence since the 1960s and is evidence based. Studies show that you reach a very deep state of relaxation where theta brain waves are produced. These are normally only experienced during deep meditation and just before falling asleep. Endorphines are produced which are our bodies natural pain relievers and mood enhancers. Floating also allows our bodies to be free from gravitational force. These effects produce numerous benefits to both mind and body. They range from a sense of wellbeing and a reduction in stress and anxiety to sports enhancement and stimulating creativity.
Other benefits include: - Relief of chronic pain - Increased joint mobility - Relaxing muscular tension - Decreasing blood pressure - Improving sleep More recent studies show relief from Fybromyalgia symptoms, with one client becoming symptom-free following 12 sessions of Floating. We are excited to announce that Kathy Powick, from Unitas Flotation, will be delivering an introductory talk on Floatation on April 21st, from 6:30pm onwards.
